The Bachelor's Degree in Modern Languages for Digital Humanities aims to create professionals whose training combines, in close synergy, sound cultural knowledge and a high level of linguistic competence, together with a solid foundation in IT skills and an awareness of digital and multimedia communication: everything needed to work in a multicultural environment and to meet the professional challenges of the present day.

AREAS OF STUDY

The degree course in Modern Languages for Digital Humanities, based on a concept that responds to the needs of the contemporary world and the near future, is structured in three subject areas: humanities, language-communication and IT-digital.

Regarding the humanistic aspect, the inclusion of literature (foreign, Italian, comparative), philosophy, and contemporary history, will enable students to acquire the tools for understanding the current world and the new media.

Regarding the language-communication aspect, the mastery of foreign languages (English is compulsory, with a second language to be chosen from French, Spanish and German) and skills in writing Italian, together with metacognitive aspects, will be acquired through the study of disciplines related to linguistics, psychology and sociology.

Regarding the IT-digital aspect, knowledge related to the digital world will be acquired through the IT and multimedia workshops.

The unique feature of this course is the synergy between the three disciplinary areas aimed at creating professionals who know how to combine cultural content and language skills with multimedia and digital content.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES

The degree course in Modern Languages for Digital Humanities prepares students in humanistic, linguistic and IT sciences. Knowledge of the linguistic and cultural heritage of the languages studied (English and a second language chosen by students between French, Spanish and German) will be acquired by the teaching of language and multimedia communication; the ability to critically analyse literary works will be gained thanks to the study of literature (foreign, Italian and comparative), while metacognitive, meta-textual and sociological knowledge will also be gained thanks to the study of linguistics, philology, psychology, sociology and the Italian writing workshop. The course is completed by IT and multimedia design workshops, which provide the tools for creating digital, web and multimedia projects.

This course composition will allow graduates to enter all those professions in which humanistic, linguistic, IT and multimedia skills are required. Graduates in Modern Languages for Digital Humanities will be able to find employment in companies operating in both innovative and traditional sectors and in publishing houses, publishing service agencies, press offices, cultural institutes, cultural foundations, museums, libraries and archives.

Graduates in Modern Languages for Digital Humanities are also well prepared for further studies: the preferred fields of study are Digital Humanities, Editorial Communication, Foreign Languages and Literature, Linguistic Mediation, Public Communication Sciences, Business and Advertising. Graduates may also choose to study specific aspects linked to the disciplines studied in the course with a first-level Master's degree in digital communication, publishing, foreign languages, specific aspects of cultural fruition or a specialisation in marketing.
