Our highly ranked MSW program will prepare you for a career in helping people create truly transformational changes in their lives. We do this through a curriculum that is rooted in evidence-based practice and that integrates trauma-informed and human rights perspectives. Recognizing and understanding the significant roles that psychological trauma and human rights violations play in a range of issues will provide you with a unique advantage as you assist clients and work to improve service delivery systems.

60-Credit Traditional Program

This program is for students from all undergraduate majors. It includes:

Fundamentals of social work (social welfare history and policy; theories of human and organizational behavior and development; diversity and oppression; interventions; and scientific methods and evaluation)

Perspectives on trauma and human rights and professional development courses

Advanced topic analysis, advanced interventions and elective course options for student-designed advanced year concentration

Applicants must have a bachelor's degree (or higher) or the equivalent from an accredited/government recognized college or university. Most such degrees will be four or more years in length; UB recognizes some three-year degrees, but not all; A B-grade (GPA of 3.0) or higher from your bachelor's degree (or equivalent) courses. Grade point averages from non-U.S. universities will be evaluated by UB's Office of International Admissions. English Language Requirements: The minimum score of TOEFL IBT is 79, the minimum score TOEFL PBT is 550, the minimum score of IELTS is 6.5, the minimum score of PTE is 55, the minimum score of Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE) 185, the minimum score of Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) 185.
