The Department of Sociology at York is ranked 1st in the UK for research quality by the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF2014). Our publications are rated as internationally world leading and the impact of our research has the highest possible rating. We encourage PhD and MPhil applicants from all over the world to join us in one of the best Departments for sociological research in the UK.

For a postgraduate taught course such as a Masters, you would normally?need?a Bachelors degree from a recognised institution in a relevant subject. The score you will?need depends on which university you attended in China and which subject you are applying to. Typically you would need at least the equivalent to a UK upper second class honours degree, however some courses will accept lower second class honours degrees. Actual requirements will vary by course: A score of 80 to 85 per cent is considered comparable to a UK 2:1; A score of 75 to 80 per cent is considered comparable to a UK 2:2. If you're a non-native English speaking applicant you must provide evidence of your English language ability.
