10月8日雅思大作文深度解析--高科技時代的公共圖書館該何去何從

10月8日的雅思考試結(jié)束了。本次考試的大作文題目是公共圖書館是否要繼續(xù)運(yùn)營下去。

Some people think that maintaining the public libraries is a waste of money, the computer technology can replace function to it. Do you agree or disagree?

這個題屬于雅思寫作考試的社會類/發(fā)展類話題。由于科技的發(fā)展，越來越多的人，尤其是年輕人開始使用各種電子設(shè)備進(jìn)行閱讀，這樣一來，公共圖書館的使用率就降低了。那么你認(rèn)為公共圖書館應(yīng)該繼續(xù)運(yùn)營下去嗎？

對于這樣的話題，大家都有自己的想法，有些同學(xué)覺得圖書館可以關(guān)閉，也有同學(xué)支持繼續(xù)保留圖書館?？荚嚨臅r候，大家只要能夠論證充分，自圓其說，那么選擇哪一個觀點都是可以的。但是選擇“支持圖書館保留下來”這個論點會比較保險一些。

針對這個題目，除去開頭和結(jié)尾以外，大家應(yīng)該有兩段或三段的論述。首先來談?wù)劄楹斡腥瞬恢С謭D書館繼續(xù)運(yùn)營下去。之后再用兩段來說明為什么圖書館應(yīng)該繼續(xù)運(yùn)營下去，并舉例論證。而大家在結(jié)尾的時候不要忘記說明圖書館存在的好處遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)多于不好的地方，并再次點題。

As we have more advanced computer technology and more APPs for reading on both smart phones and other devices like i-Pad, there is a debate about if we should maintain the public libraries. For me, public libraries should be kept even though the modern technology can replace some of its functions. 

In order to run the public libraries, the government pays for the electricity checks, buys new books and distributes employees’ paychecks annually. Apparently, it is a big amount of money and a burden of the taxpayers. As many people begin to read e-books or do their reading on-line, they tend to believe that the public libraries can be closed. 

However, even in the modern era, the public libraries should be maintained for some more important reasons. One of the them is that library is a perfect place for the retired and the senior citizens to read books. Not like the young, the aged people don’t have the knowledge of computer and aren’t used to reading e-books. As a consequence, paper book is still their first choice. In addition, according to a recent research, reading can help people slow the aging process which can definitely benefit their life of old age. 

Another reason that the public libraries should be saved is it is a highly cost-effective way of reading and learning. Books, no matter paper or electronic, costs a lot of money even if you purchase them from an on-line shop. For people who have lower salaries, a public library is an ideal place to enrich knowledge and acquire more skills. In China, the annual fee of using public libraries is just from 20 to 50 RMB. But people can read as many books as they want and they can learn a lot more. It is wonderful to go to the public libraries and learn!

As what I have stated above, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Consequently, I believe that the public libraries will play multiple roles in different people’s lives. Therefore, the public libraries should be with us no matter how old we are and how advanced the technology is.

As we can enjoy the convenience provided by reading Apps on smart phones and i-Pads, it rises a question whether we should maintain public libraries. For me, they should be kept rather than eradicated, though modern technology can somewhat replace their functions. 

In order to run public libraries, governments must pay for the maintenance fees as well as staff salaries, which can cost a big amount of money---a burden to certain taxpayers. As more and more people take to reading e-books, it is understandable that some may think public libraries can be closed. 

However, even in a modern era, public libraries are important. They turn out to be a perfect place to kill time for senior citizens, most of whom have spent their whole life making contributions to the society . Unlike the young, the aged don't know how to use computers, let alone read e-books. Thus, paper book is still their first choice. If there were no public libraries, the life of seniors could be very boring.

Another reason for keeping public libraries is they can make reading and learning economical. Certain books---reference books for example, no matter paper or electronic, cost a lot. For people who have low or no salaries, a public library is an ideal place to enrich knowledge and acquire skills. In China, the annual fee of using public libraries ranges from 20 to 50 RMB. But people can read as many as possible on condition that they obey the library rules. In that sense, public reading places really solve the money problem.

As what I have stated above, the benefits of public libraries outweigh their drawbacks. I believe they can play crucial roles in people’s lives, whatever social class they come from. Therefore, public libraries should be kept though we are getting more and more convenience from advanced technology.
